I’ve been asking on Twitter about what kinds of webcomics perhaps get misappropriated, or has a lot of prejudice against, either because of some comics making a bad name for everyone, or just basic idiotic societal stigma. Here I look at several suggestions. The point is to try and look at some show topics. While not all may actually find the original premise of my initial question, I feel I should share some incite on potential show topics for future episodes (if we make it that far).

We are already booked for a couple months, and there are A LOT of ideas. I can’t say when we’ll be getting to any of them in particular, but I’m trying my best to plan ahead as much as I can.

(1a) Video Game comics are hard to pin down on who we’d want to have on… as there honestly aren’t that many GOOD ones that I know about. Two people I WANTED to get to come on (particularly for parody comics of VG characters/worlds), but they couldn’t come on for assorted reasons.

(1b) GAMER comics are even harder to pin down because you have the Penny Arcade clones, and again some are just not that great anyway…. So as far as finding a guest for this topic, it’s kinda hard, though I would love to go into this topic.

(2) MANGA-like comics are another topic we’ve not really gone into. I would love to get some people in on this show, though I’d want to find great and original content. Not merely parodies or similarities to established, commercial series. Part of me looking for people for such a show is to find those that are really breaking the stereotype of their art style.

(3) Cyberpunk, Steampunk, or whatever, those are some good ideas to look into. I kinda have someone I’m already talking to about such a show… I don’t think they are necessarily a “big” comic, but they’ve shown an initiative in the subject in pointing out comics other than their own. There is another person I’d like to get on the show for something like this, but it be a feature (if I can get them) of them, and not so much a genre show.

(4) Sprite and/or Pixel comics…. (A) Find me some critically good ones that don’t use copyrighted, commercial characters from video games. or (B) Point me to the most popular of the ones of the copyrighted, commercial characters from video games, for a different show topic.

(5) “Fantasy” comics has been mentioned, but that is incredibly vague… especially when people usually mean “Medieval” or “D&D-esque” or “Tolken-esque”. So I’d be lookjing at SPECIFIC types of fantasy as show topics. Easier to discuss.

(6) Superheroes – Again, another WIDE subject. I do have plans to break down TYPES of superheroes for shows. Like Magic/Supernatural, Science/Science Fiction, Radiation, Mutation… makes it easier to talk about.

(7) “G-Rated” comics we’ve already discussed on one show. Might look into that subject again though.

(8) LEGO comics are something we’ll get into in the summer I hope.

(9) CGI comics are something I’ve been trying to do, but I can’t seem to get the person I want on. Oh well, I’ll be looking at a couple others next…. summer maybe.

(10) “Non-Norm” Romance or GLBT Comics is something that we may get into. Might be touching on that a bit in a couple coming episodes, but probably not as a focus. For many “non-maintream” (so-to-speak) comics, I try not to isolate them or present them differently than “mainstream” styled comics. I would like to present them just like any other comic… but that’s hard to do.

(11) Adult/Porn comics… again, this may come back as a show topic. Though we’ll likely look in different places, to not overlap what we’ve already covered.

(12) Blaxploitation comics were mentioned, but I’m not even sure that’s a big genre.. as I only know of one comic…. may need to be tied into another inclusive topic if we cover it.

(13) Photocomics. Yes, I want to have another Photocomic episode. I’m pretty sure I know who I want to get.

(14) Transgender Comics… Like #10, but this is already in the works for a revisit… but moreso as a kick-off to a look into “Misappropriated Genres”.

(15) Furry comics. We already had a GREAT episode on furries, but I don’t think we went into the comics as much. Though I think most of us know the kinds of layers of furry comics we could get into. This show would be a look into the non-sexual ones… those would be saved for a more appropriately themed episode, if we do it.

Any other feedback on these ideas (or others) would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
